Aroma Therapies and Herbal Remedies
What is Aroma Therapy?

Aromatherapy: aro·ma·ther·a·py - noun - The use of volatile plant oils, including essential oils, for psychological and physical well-being.

Aromatherapy is a complementary healing modality, which has been practiced throughout the world for at least 5000 years, and is based on the use and application of therapeutic-grade essential oils to enable the body/mind achieve and maintain a state of balance. The name Aromatherapy literally means “therapy through the use of aromas.”

De-stressing the body and mind through massage and aromatic oils can optimize your health, well-being, and enjoyment of life. True health is a matter of harmony between body, mind, and spirit, and once this is achieved, the healing can begin through the body’s own innate wisdom.

Aromatherapy massage is a powerful stress reliever. It combines the healing power of the world's oldest forms of therapy: massage and the topical application of therapeutic-grade essential oils. The combination is a powerful modality to alleviate stress, chronic pain, depression, PMS, headaches, and more.

Aroma-therapy is the use of essential oils extracted from plants and herbs. Essential oils were primarily intended mainly to be absorbed into the body via the skin, through massage. Aroma or smell therapy, goes a step further and enhances our sense of smell to induce peace and serenity by reducing stress, as well as to rejuvenate and detoxify the body. Aroma-therapy essenceses have a smell that, when inhaled, is processed in an area of the brain that controls emotions. They penetrate the skin to get into the bloodstream and the immune system to work in a physiological method.

The Benefit of Physical Application

Oils that are applied to the skin are absorbed. The components of the various oils are believed to aid in a variety of health, beauty and hygiene conditions. Essential oils are so concentrated, they should be diluted and applied to the skin with "carrier oils" which are pure vegetable oils. Common carrier oils include sweet almond oil, apricot kernel oil and grapeseed oil.

The Benefit of an "Aroma"

Just smelling an essential oil can uplift the your spirits and make you feel better. This is because the sense of smell is interrelated to an area of the brain which is primarily concerned with emotion and memory. The odours of the essential oils are believed to offer psychological benefits; not only does the aroma of the true plant stimulate the brain to trigger a positive effect,.

Herbal Remedies

Herbal Remedies have been used since the middle Ages if not before. Even animals are seen to use certain plants for certain reasons.. As the Chimpanzies of Africa use a special grass as a stomach remedy. Keeping Our bodies clear of contaniments can be done by the use of herbs and plants we can find in our own supermarkets.

Herbal Therapies
Alternate Medications

I have tried all the psych meds I care to at this point. I am only accepting meds that help with symptoms I really cannot bear. I suffer from great anxiety that turns to anxiety attacks and rage episodes. My tolerence level is zero. I need something to help me relax. I also fall into deep depressions. I need something to help me lift my spirits. I have mixed episodes where I am hypomanic for a few hours a day, usually at night. I get very little sleep, it is not uncommon to get 2 hours here and there for weeks on end. So I need something to allow me to get a good nights sleep for a change. I also feel incapacitated for much of the day fighting bad feelings and episodes of suicdal ideations. These symptoms tears me apart.

The only things the medical community can give me to help with these severe symptoms are addictive or have severe side effects. I would rather smoke pot. Pot is a great on the spot type of drug. It helps tremendously. I'd be dead without it. It has a drawback though. It is not long lasting and so one must repeat the dose every couple of hours. That is not always convenient in today's society. So I thought I would like to supplement that with more natural products that will stay in the system longer and provide a base from which I can regulate the pot... ya-da-ya-da-ya-da... I have put together a list of herbs that help with anxiety, depression and sedation. As I can afford it I am going to fill my cupboards and see if this herbal stuff is as good as they say.
