depression/mania

Marijuana as an alternate medication source. Why not? It's novel idea... isn't it? Medicinal Marijuana users insist that by "taking a little" of the 'herb', a couple of times a day, helps them with certain medical ailments as well as allows them to enjoy a few hours of the day.

Marijuana allows the sufferer to experience relief immediately from the problems associated with their illness. Pills can take up to an hour to start working. Pot has helped 10's of thousands of cancer and AIDS patients, for example, contend with side effects of their illnesses and treatments. There is also evidence that marijuana works for some psychiatric disorders as well, mainly depression (it helps alleviate the mood encouraging healthy thoughts and actions as well as being an appetite stimulant). It really helps me with with anxiety and depression.

Propoganda fed to us by a corrupt government for nearly a century has led to false social perceptions about marijuana. The perceptions are really now the only grounds for prohibition to be in place. Through government enforced regulation, it becomes obvious that the benefits of marijuana legalization outweigh the disadvantages.

The prohibition of Marijuana is a bad financial decision for the federal government. Maintaining cannabis prohibition is extremely costly for the federal and provincial governments, who in turn pass the cost on to the average Canadian taxpayer.

According to a report by the Auditor General of Canada, in 1999 there were a total of 26,904 drug arrests made in Canada. The number of pot arrests were 21,381 that same year. That shows that 70% of the drug arrests were for possession of pot. No other crimes were added into that report. Just possession charges.

It is staggering that most peeps getting busted are potheads! The number of cannabis users continues to rise across Canada, up from 6.5% in 1989, to 12.2% in 2000. Where are we in 2008? This will only increase the amount of money the federal government is throwing at the "drug wars", further charging the taxpayer.

I believe that we should regulate the sale of marijuana sensibly by setting an age limit through provincial regulation. It really is a substance less harmful than both alcohol and tobacco.

If our government doesn't wake up and smell the coffee our supplies of pot will remain in the hands of organized crime. The government will continue to spend millions on trying to stop it. The only way to stop it is to dry up the demand. If we can stop organized crime we can most likely lower the cost of the drug. You don't think our government is going to charge us blackmarket prices for something, do you? That's illegal. There is a legal term for that, but it escapes me right now.

The only way to stop organized crime is to dry up the cash flow. Cut off the demand and they have no reason to be. They want the profits after all. The only way to dry up the demand is to offer the potheads somewhere else safer to buy it. In a perfect society then one would assume the government could make money on it, rather than spend money on it. Isn't that a rule of finance somewhere?

For thousands of years of people have been using marijuana as a medicine. Today people still use it medicinally, but if you listen to the average person, many still believe marijuana is a drug without any therapeutic value. Often it is more effective than available prescribed medications for certain ailments. I list my particular ailment of generalized anxiety disorder. Pot helps me fight this illness and allows me to live a calmer life. Without it I would be forced to take addictive benzodiazepines. For me that is just not an option.

Many doctors say they would prescribe weed for their patients if were to be made more acceptable by the government. Medical marijuana has been approved for use in Canada under certain circumstances. It remains almost impossible to obtain in Ontario. The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario issued a warning in October 2002, cautioning doctors to proceed with caution when prescribing cannabis to their patients. They stated that the therapeutic effect of cannabis has not been entirely established.

Doctors are reporting that this statement makes them feel they cannot fully inform their patients about the drug and so won't prescribe it. Marijuana has been legal for medicinal use for well over 5 years now. You would think there would be studies created in this time period. As if there wasn't enough data now. How about asking some potheads their questions...

The benefits of Marijuana are being reported in new illnesses every month. It is becoming abundantly clear that this herb is one of THE most beneficial plants on earth as it can used is such a variety of ways. Because of this it should be regulated across the country. Surely there are enough studies now.

And that is my two-bits. And that's the truth, blrffffpt!
